Rare Kopi Luwak beans, harvested from the droppings of luwak deep in the Indonesian jungle, are the secret ingredient in Australia’s most expensive cup of coffee. The Sydney Morning Herald reports that the Hervey’s Range Heritage Tea Rooms is selling the rare brew for $50 a cup.
At $1250 per kilogram, drinkers can be assured that the beans are fair trade: the latte set drinking boiled-down cat shit? Can’t say fairer than that.
And with the tea room located in the rainforest-covered ranges around Townsville, the latte-sippers can be assured they’ll enjoy the illusion of having returned to nature within a few hours of getting off the Boeing 767 that got them there.
