Welfare-addicted Holden to consume ever more alcohol

6 December 2008 | Joe Stella

Having secured a share in the Federal government’s multi-billion-dollar car industry handout, Holden has announced plans to release an ethanol-powered car in 2010.

The Holden plan reinforces the link between welfare dependency and alcoholism.

In order to take full advantage of existing knowledge of the interplay between the dole and drinking, Holden will build the car in Adelaide.

A Holden spokesman told ABC News that the shift to ethanol is aimed at reducing “Australia’s dependence on foreign [oil]”. No word yet on when US-based Holden parent GM would reduce its dependence on foreign governments.

Holden’s new car will run on an ethanol blend which contains unleaded petrol and delicious melon or citrus flavours. The resulting E85 is then sold through selected petrol stations and is mainly pitched at 18 to 25-year-old women.
