Bunnings is appealing a New South Wales Government decision barring the hardware chain—and thousands of other retailers—from opening on Good Friday and Easter Sunday.
The Government says that it is restricting the hardware giant’s trading out of respect for Jesus of Nazareth, who was killed in a tragic DIY carpentry accident around 33 AD.
Historians believe that Christ was teaching the multitudes to erect a simple pergola when he became nailed to two pieces of wood for several hours and later died.
Christians believe that Jesus will someday return, because the events of 33 AD “are just the beginning.”
AAP reports that Bunnings, Aldi and Clive Peeters were forced to stay closed on the Friday before Easter, but florists, greengrocers and Cabramatta were exempt.
Retailers have appealed for a consistent standard to be applied: after all, Jesus wouldn’t have wanted people to be left arguing over a bunch of self-contradictory instructions.
Said one Bunnings representative, “what is this, Ikea?”
