Federal cabinet will today decide whether or not to increase the care factor about who owns Qantas Airways, Australia’s publicly traded national flag carrier.
Sources close to the government suggest that Transport minister John Anderson will succeed in convincing his colleagues to lift the foreign ownership care factor to 66 per cent.
The foreign ownership care factor is currently limited to 49 per cent, in recognition of the fact that it doesn’t matter who owns Qantas provided that it has access to capital markets.
