Australian track and field sensation Sally Pearson has been cruelly stripped of her gold medal in the 100 metres final four hours after she won the event in Delhi.
In a further heartbreak for the 24-year-old star, her 11.28-second time also missed out on the prestigious Man Booker Prize, despite being an early favourite.
Judges instead chose to elevate British author Howard Jacobson, whose 11th novel The Finkler Question was considered a more deserving winner than the Australian’s running at just under 32km/h for a bit.
But if Pearson was bitter at missing out on the prestigious £50,000 award, she wasn’t showing it—earning plaudits instead for her sportsmanship.
Australian officials say that Pearson must put any 100 metres sprint disappointment aside and focus on Sunday’s race to win the 1 Miles Franklin.
