Paul Shillingsworth will be paroled from a gaol in Junee tomorrow, allowing him to attend the funeral of his son Dean, The Sydney Morning Herald has reported. His mother, Rachel Pfitzner, has been remanded to face charges of killing the two-year old.
Mr Shillingsworth’s release will bring the whole family back together, apart from Dean, whose decomposed body was found in a suitcase floating in a pond, and Rachel, who is unlikely to leave prison any time soon.
The local community has dubbed Dean the “Lake Angel”, a title that is slowly winning out over the media’s preferred “Boy in Suitcase”. The tragedy has brought a new sense of identity to the south-western Sydney suburb of Ambarvale, which no-one had ever heard of before. (hint: it’s just north of Englorie Park)
