Lib Dems, Tories suspiciously anxious to stop national DNA database: but what about their victims?

25 February 2008 | Joe Stella

Conservatives and Liberal Democrats in the United Kingdom have rejected calls for a national DNA database as an affront to civil liberties, BBC News has reported.

Read more background from BBC News.

Shadow Home Secretary David Davis told the BBC that the current database “contains details of hundreds of thousands of innocent people.”

The Daily Grind understands that Mr Davis might be concerned that he left semen on a dead 16-year-old prostitute in Manchester.

The Liberal Democrats’ Chris Huhne (whuhne? Huhne!) called the proposed expansion of the database “a massive intrusion into civil liberties,” BBC News reports.

Mr Huhne refused to elaborate on details of a birthday drug binge that ended with the brutal rape and murder of an 18-year-old model.

Britain’s police are already allowed to keep any genetic material they get, no matter how they get it,  leading some officers to pursue pick-up lines so off-colour they represent an affront to civil rights.

For its part, the Association of Chief Police Officers plans to use the DNA of everyone ever arrested to create an enormous, black man.
