Students at Xavier College in Melbourne celebrating the end of school have harassed residents and damaged property in nearby streets. In response, the school suspended all 230 Year 12 students from the remaining three days of classes.
The Australian
Students described the ban as “arbitrary” and “insufficient”.
One resident described the mob of boys damaging her car as like “a scene from Lord of the Flies”. This references a climactic point in the novel when the boys, who are trapped on a desert island, walk on a car bonnet then run away when police arrive.
Had they recognised the reference to the popular set text, this would likely have incensed the boys even more.
The resident did not recognise the boys, but did identify that two of the boys that walked on her car as “wearing Xavier college socks”. Police are understood to be following up this red hot lead.
