Ex sex tape costs man $40k, but will he make it back at the box office?

11 December 2008 | Joe Stella

A court has ordered a Victorian man to pay his ex-girlfriend $40,000 compensation after he tried to show a video of the pair having sex to her family and friends.

Despite the $40,000 cost blowout in the film’s production, Boris Procopets is confident he’ll make it back at the box office.

He may also be able to cover the damages payout with funds from Screen Australia.

Critics have hailed the video as “quirky” and lauded the casting of Alla Giller, who emigrated from Ukraine in 1990, as a step forward for telling the stories of migrant communities on screen.

After a limited release among Ms Giller’s family and co-workers, the film will open nationally at Dendy cinemas on Boxing Day.

Mr Procopets is already working on his next project: finding if after this any woman will sleep with him ever again.
