23 January 2009 | Joe Stella

A West Midlands man who killed his estranged wife after she changed her Facebook relationship status to ‘single’ has been convicted in Stafford Crown Court.

Read more background from The Times.

Edward Richardson, 41, was remanded in custody and will shortly be invited to join the group ‘HM Prison Long Lartin’.

The group has 458 members, plus another four on their MySpace page.

Mr Richardson flew into a rage when he discovered his wife Sarah Richardson, 25, had changed her relationship status to ‘single’ and invited him to join at least three zombie-based applications.

Mr Richardson’s lawyer argued that being stalked by your murderous ex-husband-to-be meets the criteria for a relationship status of ‘it’s complicated’.

Fiona Cortese, of the Crown Prosecution Service, told The Daily Grind that, following the guilty verdict, Mr Richardson wouldn’t be on the popular social networking site for a while, saying that “There certainly won’t be any walls where he’s going.”
