Peter Andren, who represented the central New South Wales seat of Calare in parliament for over a decade, has died, AAP reports.
Mr Andren succumbed after a long battle with urban Australia.
The agrarian socialist was remembered by friends as a man who never abandoned his core belief: that there should be more free shit for people living in and around Bathurst.
Mr Andren also believed passionately that the government should own and operate its own telephone company.
The veteran parliamentarian was diagnosed with cancer earlier in the year after a small group of cells in his pancreas stopped voting with the rest of his body.
His successor as member for Calare will be crowned in an ancient ceremony held atop Mount Panorama.
