AAP reports that Bing Lee co-founder Ken Lee has died at St Vincent’s Hospital. Ken and his father Bing founded what is now one of Australia’s largest electrical-goods retailers in 1957.
Ken Lee was 75, but could do better for cash.
The reclusive multimillionaire was last seen at the funeral of Joyce Mayne.
The Lees probably did more than anyone else to attack the outdated Chinese stereotypes that had surfaced during the Gold Rush; replacing them with new stereotypes based on an aversion to paying list price or hiring a guy with stronger English to voice their ads.
Said a Lee competitor, “He was one of the good guys.”
Ken Lee’s estate is worth around $225 million, and can probably throw in an extended warranty as well.
