Dodson celebrates “Invasion Day” by winning Invasion of the Year

26 January 2009 | Joe Stella

A Canberra-based academic who wants to bar his fellow Aborigines from the benefits of home ownership he enjoys for himself is the new Australian of the Year.

Read more background from The Daily Telegraph.

Professor Mick Dodson, who refers to 26 January as “Invasion Day”, was at Parliament House to receive an honour we can only assume he thinks of as “Invasion of the Year.”

Prof Dodson believes that the main barrier to overcoming indigenous disadvantage is that no-one thinks he’s angry enough. He accepted his Australian of the Year gong with a speech entitled “Australia: I hate you so much I can hardly breathe.”

Prof Dodson pledged to use his position to promote the idea of changing the national holiday to some date other than 26 January, a black day in our history that touched off a pointless cycle of legal reform and economic growth and led directly to today’s awful state of affairs.

If he is successful in ending erasing all vestiges of the British arrival from 26 January, Prof Dodson will work on ending the tradition of Jour de l’Australie, which, but for Australia Day, would commemorate the moment later in the afternoon when the French arrived and would have taken over the place instead.

The Daily Grind understands that Prof Dodson also opposes the Queen’s Birthday, Labour Day and whatever holiday we end up having to replace Australia Day.

Prof Dodson becomes the most embarrassing extremist to take out the honour since 2007, when Prof Tim Flannery accepted the gong at his vast, imaginary subterranean bunker in “Geothermia”.
