Saying the bipartisan Northern Territory Emergency Response has been imposed “in a racist way”, Barkly Shire president Rosalie Kunoth-Monks has demanded a full apology—and then more assistance.
Ms Kunoth-Monks wants to expose the government’s dirty little secret: that despite a pledge to address health, education and criminal-justice issues in remote, impoverished Northern Territory communities, for some reason they’ve only helped Aboriginal communities.
The Intervention has completely bypassed the Sydney suburb of Waverton, for example, for no better reason than the colour of its residents’ skin.
Ms Kunoth-Monks is under the impression that there is no better way to get people onside than to call them racists.
The president showed off motivational posters in her office, with words like “Excellence” and “Perseverance” cut out and replaced with “Racist” and “Murder”.
“These posters help to keep my staff focused and motivated,” she told The Daily Grind, “although I had to make them myself when I should have been given them free.”
Continued the Barkly leader, “...you racists.”
