Allies of deposed former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd say he’s ready to ‘forgive and forget’ if the party dumps Julia Gillard and returns him to the Lodge.
Sources say that the party has eaten a lot of humble pie since it lost Mr Rudd’s leadership, but had used its time in the wilderness to learn from its mistakes. If given the opportunity to be led by Mr Rudd again, the party would be very different: less autocratic and not constantly trying to micromanage the PM.
Mr Rudd is promising that, if returned to the prime ministership, there will be no retribution against him.
One Rudd supporter told The Daily Grind that the ex-PM is “ready to forgive and forget” what a crap leader he was.
Despite that, it’s expected that in a Rudd cabinet, Julia Gillard would be demoted to one of the worst frontbench positions, such as prime minister.
