Campaigners for drug law reform are concerned that their core constituency may be confused by “feeder ticket” parties at next year’s NSW elections.
The state’s potheads may be fooled into voting for the ‘Shiny Objects Party’, ‘Australians for Watching the Wizard of Oz and Giggling’, and the ‘Whooooa, Shit Man Alliance’.
But senior members of the extreme right are unrepentant. Says John Tingle of the Shooters’ Party, “If these people want to wreck their bodies, their families and their lives, then they’ll support our campaigning on behalf of alchohol and tobacco, which are far more destructive.”
The Shooters’ Party is widely believed to have won its upper house seat in 1999 with the support of confused heroin addicts.
