University of New South Wales researchers have found a link between bad moods and better recall after conducting a study in a Sydney newsagency.
The findings explain why your pissed-off girlfriend seems to remember every little thing you did wrong.
The Herald reports that the survey quizzed newsagency customers on their recollection of objects placed on the shop counter. On rainy days, people in a bad mood were better able to recall how they weren’t interested in researchers’ fucking survey and how they could piss off.
Researcher Joe Forgas told the Herald that feeling a bit sad tends to increase people’s attention to their surroundings and produce a more careful, thorough thinking style.
Professor Forgas later explained to The Daily Grind that he does all his experiments while he’s feeling down because of the need for thorough thinking—and also because he hates his job.
Your girlfriend couldn’t be reached for comment, which is probably just as well for you.
