Sydneysiders have spent most of the day blanketed in a thick cloud of red dust blown over from far inland.
After waking underneath a massive dust cloud, Sydneysiders initially feared a nightmare scenario had come to pass: they had somehow become trapped inside Baz Luhrmann’s Australia, left to the mercy of cartoonish villains and forced to work long hours at something very similar to but not quite acting.
Of course, something was needed to blame, and at least initially, that thing was climate change. Other explanations floated throughout the day included perennial favourites Middle-Eastern Gangs, bank executives and colliding with Jupiter.
Newspaper headlines dubbed the event RED DAWN and LIFE ON MARS. Less successfully, some papers dubbed the event BURN NOTICE. All-new episodes Wednesdays 9.30 on Ten.
It means that the Sydney Morning Herald can finally stop referring to Sydney by the childish name “the Emerald City” and start calling it something cool, like “the Cursed Earth”.
