Homeland Security supremo Tom Ridge has deployed National Guardsmen to some 10 million Word 97 installations after it was revealed that the software could be used to illegally access data.
Terrorists could be among those gaining unauthorised access to important files in government departments and key industries.
“Our Word 97 installations are crucial to our economy,” Mr Ridge told The Daily Grind. “They must be protected from terrorism at all costs.”
Mr Ridge would not comment on suggestions that National Guardsmen were already stretched to the limit protecting nuclear, healthcare, defence-industry and Outlook installations.
